Cost Guides
OB/GYN Cost Guides for Korea
Medical costs in Korea depend on whether care is covered by National Health Insurance, whether you qualify for free national programs, and how each clinic prices non-covered items. These guides explain the cost drivers for common OB/GYN services and how to get a clear quote.
How billing works in Korea
Every item on a Korean medical bill is either covered (급여) or non-covered (비급여) .
- Covered care has a government-set fee. If you are enrolled in National Health Insurance (NHI), you pay a copayment and NHI pays the rest. Most diagnosis and treatment of medical problems falls here.
- Non-covered care is priced by each clinic and paid in full by the patient. Cosmetic procedures, many screening add-ons, contraception devices for contraception alone, and some newer treatments fall here.
- Uninsured patients pay the full price for everything, including covered items.
Free and subsidized programs
- National health screening: insured adults 20+ every two years, including a free Pap smear. See women's checkup cost .
- Pregnancy voucher: NHI-enrolled pregnant women receive a medical expense voucher. See pregnancy checkup cost .
- HPV vaccine: free for eligible adolescents and some low-income young women. See HPV vaccine cost .
Checking prices
Clinics must display their non-covered prices. The Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service (HIRA) publishes non-covered fee data for many items on its website and 건강e음 app, so you can compare. Where we cite a price in these guides, we name the source; where we could not verify one, we explain the cost drivers instead.
Getting a good quote
- Ask what is covered and what is self-pay before tests are done.
- Ask for an itemized total, including consultation, tests, medicines and follow-up.
- Ask for an itemized receipt (진료비 세부내역서) afterward for insurance claims.
For foreigners
Foreign residents generally join NHI through employment or after six months of residence. Bring your ARC or passport to every visit. See international patients for more.

Cost FAQ
Why don't you list exact prices for every procedure?
Non-covered prices are set by each clinic and change often. We only give figures we can source to HIRA data or reputable news reports; otherwise, call clinics for quotes.
Can I use NHI as a foreigner?
Yes, if you are enrolled, usually through employment or after six months of residence. Uninsured patients pay full price.
Does private insurance cover OB/GYN care in Korea?
Private indemnity insurance (실손보험) often reimburses part of medical treatment but usually excludes cosmetic procedures. Check your policy.
How do I compare prices?
Ask clinics for itemized quotes and check HIRA's non-covered fee comparisons online.
