Annual Women's Health Checkup in Busan

A yearly gynecology checkup is an easy way to stay current on cervical screening, catch problems such as cysts or fibroids early, and discuss contraception or pregnancy plans. Here's what Busan clinics typically include and how cost works.

What a checkup usually includes

There's no single standard "annual checkup" in Korea. Clinics offer a basic visit plus optional add-ons, often bundled as packages. Common parts are:

  • Consultation: your cycle, symptoms, contraception, sexual health and family history.
  • Pelvic exam and Pap smear: cervical cytology, sometimes with HPV testing.
  • Pelvic ultrasound: to check the uterus and ovaries.
  • Optional add-ons: breast ultrasound, STD panel, vaginal infection tests, hormone or AMH blood tests, anemia or thyroid tests, and HPV vaccination.

National screening you may already qualify for

If you're enrolled in National Health Insurance, the national program offers cervical cancer screening every two years from age 20 and breast cancer screening (mammography) every two years from age 40. These are separate from clinic packages. The NHIS lets you know when you're eligible, and you can ask the clinic to check. Combining a national screening with a paid add-on at the same visit is common.

When to book

  • Once a year is a reasonable rhythm for most adults, or as your doctor suggests.
  • Choose a day when you're not on your period, especially if a Pap smear is included.
  • Avoid sex, douching and vaginal medicines for a day or two beforehand.

Cost and insurance

National screening tests for eligible people are free or low-cost. Tests done because you have symptoms are generally partly covered by NHI. Screening extras with no symptoms, such as package ultrasounds, AMH tests and HPV vaccines, are usually self-pay, and package prices vary widely between clinics.   • Bring your ARC or passport, your medication list, and any recent results from home.
  • Ask for an itemized quote, and ask which items are NHI-covered and which are self-pay.

Annual checkup FAQ

  • Do I need a checkup every year if my Pap smears are normal?

    Cervical screening every two years is the national standard, but a yearly visit is still useful for contraception, STD testing, breast checks and any new symptoms. Your doctor can suggest a schedule that fits you.

  • Is a pelvic ultrasound part of every checkup?

    Not automatically. Many Korean clinics recommend one, but if you have no symptoms it's usually self-pay. Ask whether it's included and what it costs.

  • Can I get my national cancer screening at an OB/GYN clinic?

    Many OB/GYN clinics are designated for national cervical screening. Ask when you book. Breast screening may be done at the clinic or at a separate imaging center.

  • How long does a checkup take?

    A basic visit with a Pap smear and ultrasound usually takes 20 to 40 minutes, plus waiting time. Weekday mornings are often quieter than Saturdays.
