PRP Vaginal Therapy in Busan
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy uses a concentrate of your own blood platelets, injected or applied to vaginal and vulvar tissue. It is marketed for dryness, sexual function, leakage and skin conditions. Here is a balanced look at the evidence and what to ask.
What it is
Blood is drawn from your arm and spun in a centrifuge to separate a platelet-rich layer. That plasma is then injected into the vaginal wall, the vulva or around the clitoris, sometimes combined with laser or radiofrequency treatment. Platelets release growth factors involved in healing, which is the basis for the claimed benefits. The branded version marketed for sexual function is the O-Shot .
What it is used for
- Vaginal dryness and atrophy after menopause
- Arousal, orgasm or pain with sex
- Mild stress urinary incontinence
- Vulvar lichen sclerosus (in research settings)
What the evidence shows
Research is early. Most studies are small, lack control groups and have short follow-up, and they prepare PRP in different ways, which makes results hard to compare. Some report improvement, but PRP is not a recognized standard treatment for any of these conditions. Proven treatments exist for most of them, so ask about those first.
Proven options to discuss
- Dryness or atrophy: lubricants, moisturizers, vaginal estrogen; see vaginal atrophy .
- Leakage: pelvic floor muscle training.
- Lichen sclerosus: potent topical steroid treatment under a doctor's care; see vulvar pain .
Risks
Side effects are usually mild: pain, bruising and swelling. Infection is possible if equipment is not sterile. Ask whether a single-use, closed PRP kit is used.
Cost and insurance
PRP vaginal therapy is self-pay and not covered by Korea's National Health Insurance. Price varies by kit, number of sessions and any combined laser treatment. Ask for a written quote for the full course.
