Cervical polyps in Busan
Cervical polyps are small, usually benign growths on the cervix, the opening of the uterus. They often cause no symptoms but can lead to spotting, especially after sex. Most can be seen during a routine speculum exam and removed in a few minutes at a Busan OB/GYN clinic.

Many cervical polyps cause no symptoms at all and are found during a Pap smear or routine exam. They are thought to be related to inflammation and hormonal changes and are more common in people who have had children.
How they are diagnosed
A doctor can usually see a cervical polyp directly during a speculum exam. Because bleeding after sex can also come from infections, cervical ectropion or, rarely, cervical precancer, the doctor may also take a Pap smear or HPV test if you are due and swabs for infections such as chlamydia. A transvaginal ultrasound checks whether there are also polyps inside the uterus.
Removal
Most cervical polyps are removed in the clinic during a normal visit. The doctor grasps the polyp and gently twists it off, or uses a small instrument; the base may be cauterized to stop bleeding. It typically takes a few minutes, feels like a Pap smear with some cramping, and usually needs no anesthesia. The tissue is sent to a lab to confirm it is benign. Expect light spotting for a few days and avoid sex, tampons and swimming for a short period as advised.

For people enrolled in Korea's National Health Insurance (NHI), the consultation, removal and pathology test are generally partly covered when done for medical reasons, so costs are usually modest. Cervical polyp questions
Do cervical polyps need to be removed?
Doctors usually remove them because removal is simple and lets the tissue be checked. Removal is especially recommended if the polyp bleeds, is large, or you are postmenopausal.
Can I have a cervical polyp removed while pregnant?
Polyps found in pregnancy are often left alone unless they bleed significantly or look unusual. Your prenatal doctor will advise.
Are cervical polyps related to HPV or cancer?
Cervical polyps are not caused by HPV and are almost always benign. Routine cervical screening is still important, and removed polyps are tested in a lab.
How long until I can have sex after removal?
Most doctors suggest waiting until any spotting stops, often a few days to a week. Follow the advice you are given at the clinic.
