Women's STD Panels in Busan

Many Busan OB/GYN clinics offer STD panels that check for several infections at once using a swab and a blood draw. Panels differ widely between clinics, so it pays to know what to ask before you agree to one.

What a panel usually includes

Swab PCR panel (vaginal or cervical swab, sometimes urine). Korean multi-pathogen panels commonly test for:

  • Chlamydia and gonorrhea
  • Mycoplasma genitalium and Mycoplasma hominis
  • Ureaplasma urealyticum and parvum
  • Trichomonas vaginalis
  • Some panels add herpes (HSV-1/2), Gardnerella, Candida or Group B strep

Blood tests , which are separate and may cost extra:

  • HIV
  • Syphilis
  • Hepatitis B and sometimes hepatitis C

HPV testing is usually ordered separately, often with a Pap smear.

Who might choose a panel

  • A new partner, multiple partners, or a partner with an STI
  • Before stopping condoms in a new relationship
  • Unexplained discharge, bleeding or pelvic discomfort
  • Before IUD insertion or fertility treatment

Choosing the right panel

Bigger is not always better. Some organisms on extended panels, such as ureaplasma and Mycoplasma hominis, are often found in healthy women, and positive results can lead to treatment you may not need. Discuss your situation with the doctor and ask which tests are recommended for you.

Timing

Swab PCR tests are most reliable about 1 to 2 weeks after exposure. Blood tests for HIV and syphilis may need several weeks; a doctor may suggest a repeat test later. If a high-risk HIV exposure happened within 72 hours, go to a hospital emergency room to ask about PEP.

Cost and insurance

Panels done for screening are often self-pay, while tests ordered for symptoms may be partly covered under National Health Insurance (NHI). Panel prices vary considerably. Ask for a written list of tests and the total price, including blood tests and consultation, before testing. See the STD test cost guide . Tips for foreigners

  • Bring your ARC or passport. Call ahead about English-speaking staff (1330 can interpret).
  • Ask for a printed result sheet listing every organism.
  • Partners should be tested and treated for any positive result.

When to get help sooner

See a doctor promptly for fever with pelvic pain, painful sores, or pain during sex. Go to an emergency room for severe abdominal pain or heavy bleeding, and within 72 hours of a high-risk HIV exposure to ask about PEP.

Women's STD panel FAQ

  • Does an STD panel include HIV and syphilis?

    Swab panels do not; HIV and syphilis need a blood test. Some clinics bundle them, so ask exactly what is included.

  • Does a panel test for HPV?

    Usually not. HPV testing is a separate cervical sample, often taken with a Pap smear.

  • My panel found ureaplasma. Is that an STD?

    Ureaplasma is common in healthy women and often does not need treatment if you have no symptoms. Discuss the result with your doctor.

  • How long do panel results take?

    PCR swab results usually take a few days, and blood tests a similar time. Ask how results will be delivered.

  • Can I get a panel without symptoms?

    Yes. Screening without symptoms is common but usually self-pay, so ask for a price first.
