Vaginoplasty in Busan

In cosmetic gynecology, vaginoplasty usually means surgery to tighten the vaginal canal and the muscles at its opening, often after childbirth. This guide explains the surgery, the alternatives, and the risks to weigh.

What it is

The term "vaginoplasty" covers several different operations. In the cosmetic setting (in Korea often called 이쁜이수술), it refers to tightening surgery: the surgeon removes a strip of the back vaginal wall lining and brings together the muscles at the vaginal opening and the perineum. It overlaps with medical surgeries such as posterior repair (for a rectocele) and perineoplasty. Separate reconstructive vaginoplasty, such as gender-affirming surgery or surgery for congenital conditions, is specialized care typically offered at university hospitals.

Who considers it

People most often ask about it after vaginal birth, describing a looser feeling, reduced sensation during sex, or air or water entering the vagina. If you also have a bulge, heaviness, or bladder or bowel symptoms, you may have pelvic organ prolapse, which should be assessed medically.

Try first

  • Pelvic floor muscle training , ideally guided by a pelvic physiotherapist, for at least a few months.
  • Waiting until at least several months after birth and after breastfeeding, as tissues continue to recover.
  • Treating dryness or atrophy if present; see vaginal atrophy .

Non-surgical lasers and radiofrequency are also marketed for tightening; their evidence is limited. See vaginal tightening .

What surgery involves

Usually done under sedation or general anesthesia as day surgery or with a short stay. Recovery includes several weeks of soreness. Sex is typically avoided for around six weeks or more, as advised by the surgeon.

Risks

Bleeding, infection, wound breakdown, scarring, and pain with sex (sometimes from over-tightening) are the main risks. Rarely, injury to the rectum can occur. Future vaginal births may affect results.

Cost and insurance

Cosmetic tightening is self-pay and not covered by Korea's National Health Insurance. Repair for a diagnosed prolapse may be treated as medical care and partly covered; ask the clinic. Ask for an itemized quote that includes anesthesia and follow-up, and see the vaginal tightening cost guide .

Vaginoplasty FAQ

  • How soon after childbirth can I have it?

Surgeons generally recommend waiting until you have fully recovered, finished breastfeeding and tried pelvic floor exercises. Many also suggest waiting until you have finished having children.

  • Will it improve sexual satisfaction?

Some people report improvement, but satisfaction depends on many factors, and over-tightening can cause pain. Discuss realistic goals with the surgeon.

  • Is it the same as prolapse repair?

They overlap technically, but prolapse repair treats a diagnosed medical condition and may be partly covered by NHI. Cosmetic tightening is self-pay.

  • How long until I can have sex?

Usually about six weeks or more, once the surgeon confirms healing.
